Canoe Pass Tidal Energy Project
Mavi worked as part of the Canoe Pass Consortium to evaluate the feasibility of installing tidal turbines developing Canoe Pass, a passage between Quadra Island and Maude Island, north of Campbell River. Presently, this passage is blocked off with a causeway. Once the causeway is removed, the difference in water elevation between the east and west sides of the channel will create strong currents through Canoe Pass.
For this project, we modelled the tidal flows post causeway removal to calculate the power extraction potential and specify turbine deployment locations. We also developed conceptual and preliminary stage turbine, causeway and floating platform designs for the project.
